i think, the status limit needs to be increased a little bit. you can't even put something worth while in there.
for example, i wanted to put:
Never change your originality for the sake of others because in this world, no one can play your role better than you, so be yourself and win the world.
i don't think, that's exactly long.
also, another suggestion is, to show how much you've got left to write in your status.
to many times now, i've seen people with statuses, but they are cut off- because they didon't know the limit.
what does everyone think of this
the thing is that there's always going to be someone who wants it a bit longer, and a bit longer, etc. A status needs to be something that fits into a single line as you scroll down past it.
Equally the number of characters while not a bad idea in principle is not workable because you are typing a status into a quicknote box. The system doesn't know it's a status message until you execute the command i.e. press send, so would have no way of knowing whether it was a quicknote or a status message you were typing.
If you want to check your status fits just scroll to your username after you've submitted it and you'll see.
Personally, I do think there is such a thing as too long, and with all due respect, I think the one you want is too long. Extremely long statuses are irratating to me as are extremely long user names, but that's just my personal opinion.
There does need to be limits. Your status, while nice, could be cut by a few words without losing any of its affect.
